Im just saying

Recently, thanks to some extra time and my obsession with youtube, I've found a lot of hindi songs that I had long forgotten...either on purpose or by design.  After watching them a few times, and getting over the flood of memories that rushed backed, I started thinking about what it would be like to constantly view the world through Bollywood's ever-colorful, song-filled eyes.  Like, how would Bollywood portray Bonnie and Clyde?  Superman and Wonderwoman?  Well, below is my first attempt at figuring this out.  I hope all of you who haven't seen these videos in a while enjoy them!  They certainly made me laugh.

 

 Sick of regular superheros who just fly around performing heroic feats of wonder?  Does their single minded attention to the constant battle against evil, which inevitably leaves little time for anything else, leave you a little cold?  Well in Bollywood, not only are the superheros capable of saving you, all of humankind, and the world, they are able to do all of that with a little song and dance.  Beware Superman and Spiderman, there is no way Louis and Mary Jane will give you second look once they see this dancing hero.  

Fine, Adam Sandler had a remote that let him move time forward or backward, but could he change the channels?

 

Ok so if you can speak Tamil and know what any of these lyrics are, PLEASE forward them on to me!  Michael Jackson, eat your heart out.  Caribbean beats, 80s outfits, and the ever elusive Mastana.  This may have to be the first South Indian movie I see, if only to figure out what all this madness is about!

Imagine Robin Hood, or atleast because of the "Tirchi Topi" that is what I am going with.  But instead of the band of merry men, Robin Hood is hanging out with Tarzan's buddies and instead of either Maid Marian or even Tarzan's Jane, Quasimodo's Esmeralda.  This Bollywood Robin Hood is much more cosmopolitan, apparently not just hanging out in the Sherwood forest but also in the depths of some tropical jungle, with all the wild beasts that in habit it too.  And I may say, Sonum rocking out to a beat reminiscent of Gloria Estafan is soo much cooler than anything Lady Marian every did. 

 

Tridev is turning out to be a goldmine of a movie.  Pet Shop Boys imitation with a ending similar to the ending of The Breakfast Club?  

 

One of my favorite songs, this fabulous video makes has sweet lyrics, sweet music (and yes the acoustic sound beats even the remix, even if Upen is easier on the eyes than Feroz Khan).  The starkly beautiful Afghan background makes this one of my favorite Bollywood videos and while I'd rather be with Upenn, FK definitely is a better answer (in this video) to the rugged hero than John Wayne.  Oh, I said it.
