Licenses

VA- on the negative side, our rankings on death penalty convictions leave a lot to be desired.

On the positive side, our rankings in funny bumper stickers is a source of pride.

I think studying for exams has reduced my sense of humor to that of a 9 year old.  WHatever.  It's funny.

1st semester 1L year

So I just realized that the my first semester as a 1L is quickly coming to a close.  In order to not waste time, I've decided to sit down and priotize my goals for the rest of the semester:

1.  Figure out what the lyrics in the "Lime in the Coconut" song really mean.

2.  Start waking up early again.

3.  Memorize my schedule.

Well, I better stop there.  I read that if you set too many goals,  you can overwhelm yourself and end up giving up on everything.  I assumed the article was talking about the various goals you have set, but it didn't specify that it wasn't talking about suicide, soo I'll just err on the side of safety.

So far, this has been what my 1L year has looked like:

The Injured:

This was a crazy softball game where all four of us were severly injured.  I know the severity of our injuries might be hard to tell due to our stoic expressions of pure athletic bravery in this picture, but trust me, it was a jungle out there.  Now while I'm NOT, let me reiterate, NOT saying that the other team was a crazed group of sleep deprived 1Ls looking to take out their most probably celibate-lifestyle-driven excessive amounts of frustration on us, I will say that there have been no injuries in any of our other games.  With these 4 players.  As far as I know.

On a totally unrelated note, what's the difference between iterate and reiterate?  Iterate means to do something over and over again.  How can you re-do something repeatedly?

Foxfield (if you don't know what this is, check out the Law Weekly description of Foxfield.)

Sure, it is talked up way more than it should be, and yes, you do end up getting annoyed with the way everyone in the world is trying to get under the 5x5 tent and end up spending way too much time in the sun with a drink in your hand (ever a good combination), but hey, when else do you get to dress up for no good reason and waste large portions of time drinking?  Oh wait, at UVA law, that is every other weekend.  (SEE PILA Auction pics below.)

Plus, it was a great way to hang out with previous Section F-ers and meet a lot of random non-UVA people who are just hanging around because they either:

#1 Love any excuse to dress pretentiously (likely)

#2 Are trying to pick up wasted UVA students (highly unlikely, ofcourse)

#3 Really love horse races (also likely).

Halloween

So there are a lot of oppurtunities to dress up at UVA Law.  I actually like that.  It gives me an excuse to roll around in sweats the rest of the time.  But I've been a pirate two years in a row now, so apparently I am totally uncreative when it comes to costumes.  Any suggestions for next year are welcome.  (And don't say Jem, that was '05.)

Dating Life

Umm if only I had the nerve to do this.  Here's the thing, is being at law school what makes this seem like such an attractive option, or the fact that I think this is a great option the reason why I am here at law school?  I guess it's one of those chicken and egg questions, what came first, the anal retentiveness or the law student?
